Over the past few years, travelers have watched OMA transform through demolition, steel, glass, concrete and construction throughout the terminal. Now, many of those projects are getting closer to the finish line.
As work continues across the Build OMA Terminal Modernization Program, we’re sharing an estimated timeline for when travelers can begin experiencing new spaces, amenities and improvements. Many of these developments will open in phases over the next year, with each milestone bringing us closer to the fully transformed OMA.
In our latest video, the Omaha Airport Authority team shares what’s open now and what’s coming next:
- South Concourse improvements continue: The existing South Concourse remains open as crews install new ceilings, lighting and flooring. Work is also progressing on the future home of The Mill Coffee and Tea, opening later this year.
- First new gates opening late 2026: The first all-new gates are nearing completion in the expanded South Concourse. Travelers can expect more seating, charging stations, updated restrooms and other new amenities, with passenger boarding bridge installation now underway.
- Central Pavilion and Unified Concourse opening early 2027: OMA’s new Central Pavilion and Unified Concourse continue to take shape ahead of their planned opening. Dining and shopping spaces are preparing for buildout as crews install terrazzo flooring and new glass elevator enclosures.
- New baggage handling and ticketing systems opening mid-2027: Work continues on new ticketing counters and the equipment that will sort, screen and process checked luggage. These behind-the-scenes improvements will help make travel more efficient, secure and reliable.
- Central Skywalk coming in 2027: A new Central Skywalk will allow passengers to conveniently walk directly from the South Garage to the entrance of the new centralized security checkpoint. It will also allow improvements to the existing skywalks while maintaining convenient connections between the terminal and parking garages.
As OMA continues to evolve during the busy summer travel season, a little extra planning can help make your trip smoother:
- Arrive at least two hours early: Allow extra time for parking, check-in and security.
- Reserve parking in advance: Visit ParkOMA.com to secure your parking before arriving at the airport.
- Use Find Your Way at OMA: Follow airport signage, ask staff for assistance or use the interactive map at FlyOMA.com/map for step-by-step directions on your mobile device.
With new gates opening later this year and major spaces following in 2027, travelers are getting closer to experiencing the next chapter of OMA. While these milestones mark exciting progress, construction will continue throughout the airport through 2028.
